Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit – New Screenshots

We’ve got a few new screenshots for Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, the reboot of the Need for Speed franchise by Criterion (the geniuses behind Burnout Paradise) due out later this year. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit brings the franchise back to its roots with intense cops vs. racer chases. Criterion also ups the ante with the introduction of an all-new online network called Need for Speed Autolog where players compare racing stats and automatically get personalized gameplay recommendations from their friends– a feature that is poised to transform online racing for the connected generation.

Craig Sullivan, Creative Director of the game said, “At Criterion, we’ve been playing Need for Speed since it was first introduced on 3DO. We are honored and excited by the opportunity to reinvent the franchise for today’s connected audience. Our goal has been to create cops vs. racers pursuits that are so fun, fast and exciting it really brings to life the adrenaline and intensity of the high speed cop pursuit experience with your friends”.

Gothic 4: ArcaniA – Delayed on PS3

Bad news for all PS3 RPG fans out there – the PlayStation 3 version of Arcania has been delayed from October 2010 into “the first half of 2011″, citing the need for additional development time to get it up to the same quality as the PC and Xbox 360 versions.

The complex hardware of the PS3 is notoriously difficult to program for, especially for studios with no or little prior experience in PS3 programming. Given the alternatives of either not being released on Ps3 at all, or being released at a sub-standard quality, it may be annoying but it’s a sensible choice to delay the game in order to refine it.

Although this is bad news, the highly anticipated Two Worlds II is also due for release in the same month so it’ll at least give RPG fanatics time to play through that before moving onto ArcaniA. If you’re still feeling left out, we’ve got a whole load of ArcaniA screenshots right here for you to see:

ArcaniA: Gothic 4 – New Screenshots

We’ve got a handful of brand new screenshots from upcoming RPG adventure ArcaniA: Gothic 4, showing a small selection of the wildlife and enemies that players will encounter on their journey to free the people of Myrtana through the game.

The game’s predecessor, Gothic 3, was an excellent PC RPG let down by annoying bugs and high system requirements for fairly unspectacular visuals. Assuming those problems are ironed out, and judging from the screenshots released so far, it looks like Gothic 4 is shaping up beautifully and we could be in for a treat when it’s finally released in October this year.

Earthworm Jim HD Releases On PSN Tomorrow

Earthworm Jim will probably be lost on many younger gamers, but anyone who’s played a 16-bit game on a 16-bit console will probably know of this quirky title. For those of you that don’t know what Earthworm Jim is all about, it’s a run and gun platformer. You are an earthworm called Jim, trying to take on the forces of evil with nothing but a robotic suit and a pistol.

This HD remake of the original title will feature all of the levels included in the original game (released on Sega MegaDrive) which means lots of shooting cows, and using your head as a whip. On top of that, you can play with your friends via local or online 2-4 player co-op, on a choice of 15 multiplayer maps.

Transformers: War for Cybertron – Screenshots

Transformers ArtworkWe’ve just added a whole load of screenshots for Transformers: War for Cybertron, which is due to launch in the UK on June 22nd.

War for Cybertron is a 3rd-person shooter set as a prequel to the Transformers TV series, where the Transformers are still on cybertron and Optimus Prime isn’t the leader of the Autobots yet. The game is powered by the Unreal Engine 3, which is also used for some very slick looking games such as Batman: Arkham Asylum and Unreal Tournament 3.

Unlike some of the other recent Transformers games, War for Cybertron is looking like it might turn out pretty well, in particular the three-player co-op looks very exciting. It’s out less than a fortnight, so we’ll know more soon. Read more

New Enslaved Screenshots and Trailer

Enslaved is a new platformer/puzzler currently being developed for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Having been rightly or wrongly compared to Uncharted 2 in the graphics department several times, this brand new IP looks like its going to shake things up on release in the Autumn of this year with its beautiful graphics and potentially solid gameplay.

The basis of the storyline is this; set one hundred and fifty years into the future, the game takes place in an overgrown city where the inevitable apocalypse that has been the base of many games has happened – which is it this time? Global war with the robots. You are a slave – known simply as ‘Monkey’ – and your slave master is trying to get out of the city alive, the game revolves around the ensuing adventure, where you can expect lots of co-op gameplay including puzzles and combat (similar to that of Heavenly Sword).

Below is the trailer for this game as well as a wealth of screenshots:
