Gran Turismo 5 – Hands On

Gran Turismo 5 was playable at Eurogamer in several forms; standard, 3D, and in a full ‘cockpit’. I was lucky enough to play two tracks on Gran Turismo 5, though neither was in 3D or a cockpit. The first track I played was Nürburgring Nordschleife, which is a winding racetrack running through blissful green countryside. The second track I got to play was Rome, which was obviously much more claustrophobic and built-up but this just made it all the more exciting. Having extensively played both Gran Turismo and Gran Turismo 3, as well as the GT 5 ‘Time Trial’ that was released on the PSN Store late last year, I was keen to see how the franchise had progressed to its flagship title, Gran Turismo 5. inFamous 2 – Hands On

inFamous 2

It was May last year that Cole McGrath first took the PlayStation 3 by storm (pun) in the form of an electrical superhero. Sucker Punch poured a lot of effort into their fantastic new IP, with inFamous quickly receiving generally high scores from the press – including a few perfect scores from some critics. The game blended brilliantly the elements of an open world game with the action and decisions that a superhero must make, which some people loved and some people hated. Needless to say, fans of the game couldn’t wait to see more of Cole; so when inFamous 2 was announced at E3 in June with bigger powers, colourful environments, and an improved melee combat system, the media went crazy.

After trying out the game at the recent Eurogamer Expo in London, it is clear to see that the game has vastly improved from its predecessor, with a lot to look forward when it releases next year. However, that’s not to say that there aren’t some glaring problems with the game.

Killzone 3 – Hands On

Killzone 3 LogoKillzone 3 was playable at Eurogamer Expo 2010 in both standard and 3D varieties. While I’ve played Batman: Arkham Asylum in old school 3D (with the red/green lenses), Killzone 3 was my first taste of full-on Avatar-quality 3D gaming. My first thoughts were that I was very impressed with the layering of the graphics, though the game did display a very slight flicker like an old interlaced monitor. The colours were an almost 100% reproduction of the non-3D version, and generally it was very slick and fun to see. Killzone 3In particular, when pulling up the gun for closer aim, the 3D effect really made it feel as close to reality as a computer game can get (without all that wacky Lawnmower Man stuff anyway). The only real downside to the 3D was that it made the game, in particular the aiming, very slightly more difficult than the normal version - though having only played the game for about 20 minutes, it could simply be that I needed to get used to the 3D effect. LittleBigPlanet 2 Beta – Single Player Hands On

LittleBigPlanet 2 Box ArtLittleBigPlanet 2 has a lot to live up to. Its predecessor, LittleBigPlanet, is one of the most creative and imaginative games of this generation, spawning literally millions of user generated levels along with a plethora of stickers, costumes and other bit and pieces. So how will the developers at Media Molecule take what they had with LittleBigPlanet and improve it to the point where they have a fully-fledged, justifiable sequel?

The beta version of LittleBigPlanet 2 contains a selection of the levels from the Story campaign, as well as a community levels section. Although many, if not most, people will be buying LittleBigPlanet 2 for its extensive level creation features, the first thing most players will do is play the single player levels. So how do they shape up? Well, the beta has one level from each of three zones, along with a couple of bonus games, which is enough to get a good feel of how the game will end up. Read more
