Japan Tsunami Appeal – How You Can Help

It’s been just over a week since the devastating tsunami struck Japan following an earthquake near the Japanese capital, Tokyo. Thousands of homes have been washed away by the tsunami, with some villages being completely submerged, many more people go without power due to the crisis at Fukushima – not to mention the danger of radiation poisoning in the vicinity.

Sony has given us the chance to help out the relief effort by placing donation packages on PlayStation Stores across the globe. In the UK, you can donate in denominations of £2, £5, £10 and £20. It may not seem like much, and you may feel that your efforts go wasted; but believe me they don’t – every penny counts, and every penny is spent. Each donation will give you access to a free ‘Sunrise Blossom’ theme as a goodwill gesture.

If everyone who owned a PS3 in the UK donated just £2, we would raise a phenomenal £8 million, saving many lives in the process. If everyone in Europe donated, the amount raised would hit in excess of £32 million. Over 5,000 people have died so far, with nearly double that amount missing. Don’t let more innocent people die; donate on the Store now. Thank you.

Wanted: Writers, Reviewers and PlayStation Fans

PlayStation Future LogoDo you know the difference between Gray Fox and Star Fox? Are you interested in writing and commentating about PlayStation games and hardware? Would you like to contribute to a growing PlayStation news and reviews website?

If the answer to any of those questions is ‘yes’ and you’re interested in joining the team at PlayStation Future then we want to hear from you! We’re looking to recruit two or three new writers who can help out as and when they have the time, no pressure or commitment, just the desire and ability to write interesting news stories and/or reviews.

We cover PS3, PSP and PSP2 news, as well as reviews for all the PlayStation consoles (older games are reviewed as ‘Classic Reviews). If you want to contribute, just click here to contact us and let us know how you can help. We can’t offer any pay unfortunately, but we do get pre-release review discs and codes from time to time, which get shared out among the team.

We do this for fun but writing for a gaming website could be a good thing to put on your CV or a way of building up your writing ability or even gaining a few links in the industry. You won’t need much technical knowledge and we can easily explain how to post new stories and where to get all the press information from.

If you are interested, please get in touch.

PSP Reviews Incoming

PSPWe’ve been posting PlayStation 3 news and reviews for some time now but we’ve not had the resources to feature much of the poor old PlayStation Portable, which is still very much alive and kicking over six years after it launched.

Today marks the start of our expanded PlayStation range coverage and our new writer, Benleslie5, will be heading up reviews for PSP games, starting with Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker later on today. We hope all you PSP owners won’t feel quite so left out from here onwards, and that you enjoy our new PSP reviews. Keep your eyes peeled for our Kingdom Hearts and Persona 3 reviews too.

Top Gun – Competition Winners

We’re pleased to announce the winners of our recent Top Gun competition to win a copy of the game, plus a t-shirt and some PlayStation Home avatar outfits for the runner up. The aim of the competition was to come up with a flying or Top Gun related fictional PlayStation Trophy for the game.

The first prize winner was mattsimmo, with his suggestion of Take My Breath Away – fly vertical up to 50,000ft (or similar) and perform 5 barrel rolls.

The runner up prize goes to X-_Scarecrow_, with his suggestion of Duck, Duck, Goose. – Tag 3 enemy planes in a row without taking damage.

Congratulations to X-_Scarecrow_ and mattsimmo, and thank you to everyone who entered our competition. We’ve actually got a spare Top Gun t-shirt so if anyone wants it we’ll give it to the first person who comments here – UK entrants only though I’m afraid.

Thanks to www.PlayReplay.net for supplying the prizes.

LittleBigPlanet 2 Beta – Single Player Hands On

LittleBigPlanet 2 Box ArtLittleBigPlanet 2 has a lot to live up to. Its predecessor, LittleBigPlanet, is one of the most creative and imaginative games of this generation, spawning literally millions of user generated levels along with a plethora of stickers, costumes and other bit and pieces. So how will the developers at Media Molecule take what they had with LittleBigPlanet and improve it to the point where they have a fully-fledged, justifiable sequel?

The beta version of LittleBigPlanet 2 contains a selection of the levels from the Story campaign, as well as a community levels section. Although many, if not most, people will be buying LittleBigPlanet 2 for its extensive level creation features, the first thing most players will do is play the single player levels. So how do they shape up? Well, the beta has one level from each of three zones, along with a couple of bonus games, which is enough to get a good feel of how the game will end up. Read more

What We’ve Been Playing – July 2010 Edition

PlayStation Future Logo

Summer is now in full swing and the absence of new games is still fairly unnoticeable as the pile of the “To Play…” games slowly dwindles. Not to worry though, in a few months another mammoth wave of games and hardware will hit the PlayStation franchise with tonnes of new games like LittleBigPlanet 2, Heroes On The Move, Gran Turismo 5 and many more. Then there’s PlayStation Move in its entirety with many games getting a move update – Heavy Rain included.

For now though, it seems the team has been busy with a variety of games. Let’s take a look, shall we?

What We’ve Been Playing – June 2010 Edition

PlayStation Future LogoWith E3 now everything but a distant memory, it’s safe to say that this year’s event brought some huge surprises to nearly everyone, with a Gran Turismo 5 release date being announced and the Sly Cooper HD Remake also making an appearance as well as tonnes more stuff coming, I think we can be pretty sure that this year’s PS3 (and PSP) line-up could quite possibly be the best yet.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves here, seeing as this is where we tell you what we’ve been up to in the gaming world recently. With those May releases slowly drifting away and the relentless pace of video game releases slowly decreasing, it’s been a nice month to catch up on all of those little gems that we missed out on when they were first released.
