Originally released a staggering five years ago, Oblivion is being re-packaged and re-released as a 5th Anniversary Edition in North America, with Europe and the rest of the world possibly to follow. The new edition contains the Game of the Year version of Oblivion, along wtih the original ‘making of’ DVD, a map, and a $10 off Skyrim coupon – all packaged in a steelbook case.

Being a relatively old game, the PS3 version of Oblivion didn’t have any Trophy support and for some reason was never given access to any of the extra DLC that the PC and Xbox 360 versions had. Bethesda eventually confirmed that they had ceased work on Oblivion altogether and there was no chance that the PS3 version would get the extra DLC, nor Trophy support. Then a glimmer of hope arrived with an early scan of the box art for the forthcoming 5th Anniversary Edition of Oblivion, set for release next month in North America…

As you can see, the box art clearly states ‘Trophies’ as one of the features of the game. Has Bethesda finally gone back to Oblivion to add Trophy Support? Could they have added support for the extra DLC at the same time? Alas, no.

Over on the official Bethesda blog, eager PS3 gamers flooded the comments with questions about Trophies and DLC. Eventually, one of the offical reps responded with answers to both questions:

Any release for PS3? Trophies and everything?

PC, PS3, and 360. Sorry, no trophies

Clearly this is more for people who haven’t bought Oblivion or haven’t bought the DLC and might of broken their disk and can get it cheap while also getting some cash back if they buy Skyrim.

All in all sounds like a good offer. But yes we’re still wondering if all the small DLC like horse armor is included too. If not fine.

Oblivions a great punch of value for people who buy it, not the best RPG ever but still fun.

It’s the core game, Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles. The DLC are not included.

So there you go folks, no chance for Trophies and no DLC included. While this doesn’t technically rule out the possibility of the DLC appearing on the PSN Store, Bethesda’s earlier confirmation that they’ve stopping working on Oblivion isn’t changed by this latest re-release – so basically, no, there won’t ever be DLC for the PS3 version.

Still, at least Skyrim’s only just around the corner…
