The E3 2011 trailer for Final Fantasy XIII-2 has been released by Square Enix. It shows that this time, the game will focus more on Serah and Lightning; also there’ll be an updated battle system (although battles look similar to FFXIII), new playable characters, and what look like actual towns to walk through. At the end of the trailer, it is also revealed that FFXIII-2 will see a release in ‘Early 2012′ – whether this applies to Europe or not, we’ll have to see.
This looks ACE. I wasn’t that bothered originally (I would rather just keep playing the end-game of FFXIII) but the more I see of XIII-2 the more exciting it looks. I wouldn’t be surprised if Versus XIII gets canned in favour of this…
It does look pretty good. The good thing about XIII-2 is that you don’t have to establish a whole new world – we know about the l’Cie and Fal’Cie, and about Pulse and Cocoon – so the game doesn’t need to tell us about it. Hopefully the experience should be much more focused this time round
The things I really want, like airships, chocobo breeding, huge towns, lots of sidequests and a world map, are all pretty much last-gen Final Fantasy features. While I’m not holding out much hope for them in FFXII-2, I do hope that we at least get a few side quests and a couple of towns.
Like you say, with more time away from setting up the storyline, maybe the experience will be a lot more focused and more interactive this time. We’re probably a year away from an EU release, so I’m sure we’ll get flooded with information in due time
.
That’s what I’m looking for in a Final Fantasy too. Sadly the focus seems to be more on graphics nowadays rather then gameplay – and its simply because these days graphics take so much longer to program in (therefore the developers focus on the graphics).
Obviously with developers like Naughty Dog, because they develop exclusively for PS3, they’ve got the hardware sussed – Squenix have got to re-optimise for the (dare I say inferior) X360.
