The ‘Special Edition’ high definition remake of The Secret of Monkey Island has landed on PSN in North America but as yet there’s been no word on a European version, confounding European fans with a real life quest to locate the enigmatic Monkey Island. The Official Facebook page simply has the following to say:
“Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition is now available on PlayStation Network for $9.99! Enjoy Monkey Island on your PS3 right now!”
PSN games are often released in the EU a few weeks later than in North America due to the extra work involved with translation, as well as the more complex licencing issues arising from the number of countries involved. However, the fact that no official date has been revealed yet may indicate a more substantial delay. We’ve asked the team behind the game for an update and we’ll report back any information as soon we have it.
When? When? When?
I cannot believe it. Why do they have to be so tight-lipped?
It’s enfuriating because all we’d like to know is an estimated date as to when it will come out here, and we’re satisfied. Even in PSN USA it was like Monkey Island 2 will be out THIS SUMMER!!!!! oh yeh and we almost forgot SOMI:SE will be out er sometime somewhere on PSN maybe. They just released it stateside without telling anyone and we Europeans have literally no clue what’s going on!
I know what you mean; I’m so tempted to buy a $20 US PSN code and just get it from the US store!
Ha! I did’t know you could do that..
Frankly, I still don’t see the point in paying 30 bucks for a 10 buck game…
Whatever the reasons, it doesn’t really matter does it? I mean they could say for legal reasons, distribution, technical issues whatever. Instead they say nothing. There’s been random hints about it on facebook, but we are the last to know, and we’re the ones supposed to be forking out the cash..Comsumer expectation is not being managed at all. Isn’t that the point of product lanch promotions? To manage consumer expectation?
If you go on gamespot and look at all the promo footage they did to promote Monkey Island 2, there was no mention of the first one other than “it will come out in a few weeks”.
Reading between the lines, they used the Xbox as a platform to test the launch of the product (leaving PS3 owners and fans in the dust) It’s obviously done ok, hence the production of MI2, but the expectation for the original game lanched on PSN has been largely overlooked and uninformed.
Frankly, I feel the promotion has been botched. Lusasarts have clearly been far too conservative about the retro remake gaming market and are taking it nice and easy. People are screaming out for Day of the Tentacle, Loom, Grim Fandango etc! Remaking it is great, we are happy for it, but when can I buy it????
